LONDON. Number of pandemic victims coronavirus has risen by five percent in Europe in the last week, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to them, Europe is the only region in the world where there has been an increase in the number of deaths, the AP agency wrote on Wednesday.

In a recent weekly report, the UN Health Agency said the number of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection had increased by six percent worldwide, due to increases in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

COVID-19 deaths have reportedly remained flat or declined in all regions of the world except Europe over the past week – reporting a total of 50,000. Of the 3.3 million new infections, 2.1 million were confirmed in Europe.

This is the seventh week in a row of cases in the WHO European Region, which includes 61 countries, including Russia and Central Asia. The number of infections has been declining in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia since July.

Within Europe, they have the highest number of cases in Russia, Germany and Britain, the WHO said. The report also pointed to an increase in deaths of 67 percent in Norway and 38 percent in Slovakia.

While in Western Europe about 60 percent of the population is fully vaccinated against covid, in the eastern part of the continent it is only half that number.

The WHO has previously identified Europe as the current epicenter of the pandemic and warned that if the countries of the region do not urgently do more to fight the spread, another 500,000 people could die in the region by January.
