Basile (Sicurtransport): ‘More digital security with PNRR resources’

“Technological evolution brings not only benefits but also an increase in threats to both tangible and intangible assets. We were born to protect the values ​​of people who are now also on the digital level and to adapt we have invested in innovation “. Thus in an interview with Tempo, Luciano Basile, CEO of the holding company of the Sicurtransport group. “The more the technology progresses the more the threats increase. And if before the prejudice came with the theft of goods, today also affecting the digital sphere brings high damage. We had to specialize and move from traditional security, which required minimal technology and a lot of human experience, to cyber defense that involves artificial intelligence interventions with predictive software ”, he underlines. How does it work? “An example. If there are cameras that monitor a property we can modulate them – he explains – in order to record all the people who have certain characteristics or cross an entrance where they must not be. If they have glasses, if they have long hair, if they are wearing something suspicious or other characteristics that suggest possible camouflage and danger. The algorithm set on the images, defined certain parameters, can automatically signal a possible threat. ”So is cyber security the new perspective of your business? “Yup. We have been following it for years and applying technologies that come from those already tested in the military field, also thanks to international partners of the highest level. We are talking about defense against hacker attacks – highlights Basile – but also about control over the export of data from a company to the outside world. Among our other activities is the fight against cyber criminals and, in close collaboration with the police, we support our customers who are victims of criminal events with ransom requests “. “Fifty years ago we carried out the transport of valuables, custody and cash processing according to the directives of the Bank of Italy. Today we offer more technological services always based on the trust that binds us to customers. Also for this reason we have more electronic and IT engineers than before and all the innovative activities, which today represent 25% of the total turnover, are growing ”, he underlines. Today in Rome you have organized a conference on safety and the PNRR. What is the connection? “We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of Sicurtransprot, one of the main companies of the Basile Group, which with 4 thousand employees is the largest in the South in the field of security. This is why we have organized an event that starts from the change introduced in the habits of citizens by the pandemic. Today people are asking – says Basile – even more than before, greater security. This is intertwined with the PNRR which pushes on the digital transition and which can also be the starting point for greater data security ”. What are you asking the government? “We would like to think about the possibility of using the investments envisaged in the EU plan for the protection of both public and private digital databases and archives. During the conference we will address this appeal to a stakholeder audience that we hope will translate into concrete proposals ”, he explains. What do you put in common? “Infrastructures such as our data centers and servers that would be available to both public and private users. Then a core of security professionals, our surveillance teams who are certainly no longer the old night watchers but advanced figures from the point of view of professionalism, well equipped and well trained. In short, we have both physical and digital eyes on Italian cities. A heritage of an entire sector – he highlights – which for now is underutilized but which can be made available to the community.
