“The queen has a strong back, so she decided this morning with great regret not to attend today’s memorial service at Kenotafe (a monument to the fallen in central London),” the palace wrote in a statement on Sunday. “Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss Mass,” the palace said in a statement.

The wreath was placed at the monument on her behalf by her son Prince Charles, as in previous years. The ceremony, of course, included other representatives of the royal family, including Prince William and Prince Edward, but also the wives of the princes, such as Duchess Camilla, Duchess Kate and Countess Sophie of Wessex.

The ceremony in honor of the fallen soldiers is close to the Queen’s heart, and her absence will raise strong concerns about her health. Three weeks ago, she had to spend the night in the hospital, where she passed unspecified tests.

Elizabeth then canceled her planned participation in the UN climate summit (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, as doctors recommended her rest. Instead, Charles and her grandson Prince William attended the climate summit, giving a series of speeches to the delegates. The queen also canceled a two-day trip to Northern Ireland.
