The third wave of the pandemic is not worse than the second, the health minister noted. He pointed out that it is important to monitor the situation in hospitals and not the number of infected. In the discussion, he noted that even over the weekend, they dealt with the translation of patients from busy areas to others. He sees the problem in the low percentage of people vaccinated in the country and in the overloaded health system.

He didn’t rule out lockdowns

The Minister did not rule out that local lockdowns could be accepted in the following period. “The agreement with the prime minister is such that if stricter measures are needed, they will be adopted,” said Lengvarsky. The Minister has a reserved position on compulsory vaccination. According to him, it is different in the case of the armed forces or critical infrastructure, where it is possible to talk about compulsory vaccination. He also noted that they do not want people to be tested again on a large scale, but they want to get them vaccinated.

Regarding the reform, which passed the parliament at second reading, he reiterated that hospitals will not be closed. He noted that hospitals would not even become aftercare facilities. Functional departments will continue to operate and will not be abolished. If the reform is adopted in the second reading, the Ministry of Health will present the government with several scenarios on how to manage the funds. The head of the health department believes that decisions will be made that will benefit the citizens.

He concluded by saying that health care reform was not for him, but for the people. “I don’t associate my tenure with any things,” he said that if the reform did not pass, it would remain a minister and look for further solutions.
