Covid-19: who can receive the vaccine booster? When ? – South West

In order to fight against a resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic in France, Emmanuel Macron once again called on the French to continue to be vaccinated during his speech on Tuesday evening. In particular, the “6 million” of them have not yet received a first dose.

The Head of State called in particular to “accelerate” the vaccination for the third dose. First for the “elders” and “the most fragile”. Thus, for those over 65, the health pass will be conditional on the administration of this third dose from December 15. In addition, for 50-64 year olds, vaccinated for more than 6 months, a booster campaign will also be launched in early December.

“In all cases, the booster must be done with the Pfizer vaccine in an undifferentiated manner regardless of the vaccine used for the primary vaccination”, specifies the Ministry of Health. Update on eligible people:

Since September

The populations eligible for a vaccination booster since September 2021 are:

• Residents of EHPADs and USLDs.

• People over 65.

• People at very high risk of severe form.

• People with serious risk factor pathologies, according to the classification established by the Haute Autorité de Santé.

• People with severe immunosuppression.

• People who have received the Covid-19 Janssen vaccine.

For the first four groups of people, the booster must be done within a period of at least 6 months between the complete primary vaccination and the administration of the booster dose. For people who have received the Covid-19 Janssen vaccine, the Haute Autorité de Santé recommends a minimum of 4 weeks between the primary vaccination and the booster dose.

Since October

Since October 2021, new populations have been affected by the vaccination booster, at least 6 months after their complete primary vaccination:

• Health professionals,.

• Employees in the health sector and the medico-social sector.

• Home helpers working with vulnerable people.

• Medical transport professionals.

• Firefighters.

• Relatives (over 18 years of age) of immunocompromised people.

From December

From the beginning of December 2021, 50-64 year olds will be eligible for the injection of a booster dose, announced Emmanuel Macron on November 9, 2021. The precise conditions of this expansion of the booster campaign must be specified by the health authorities, seized for this purpose, in the coming days.

Under the vaccine market authorization, 50-64 year olds will only be able to receive a booster dose six months after the end of their initial vaccination schedule, such as those over 65 and patients with co-morbidities.
