Sciences Po Paris: Mathias Vicherat elected new director – archyde

This time, the doors are wide open to him, as if Sciences Po were waiting for him: the Enarque Mathias Vicherat, 43, was elected by 19 votes out of 23 by the board of directors of the National Foundation for Political Science (FNSP), Wednesday November 10. He will succeed Frédéric Mion, forced to resign on February 9 for having concealed the charges of incest targeting political scientist Olivier Duhamel, then president of the FNSP.

The day before, the dubbing had been given to him by the council of the institute, with 21 votes out of 28, a surprise coming from a body mainly made up of academics, which could not have been given to a candidate with no managerial experience in higher education and research. “He started from afar, and his entry cost was very high, but he met more than 200 people to build his project, which he further improved during his oral performance”, confided a member of the council of the institute, who gave him his voice, Tuesday, November 9.

Heard on Wednesday afternoon, the two other candidates still in the running, the sociologist and research director at the CNRS, Christine Musselin, and the historian and general administrator of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM), Olivier Faron, did not collected respectively only three and one vote. The day before, each one had obtained only two votes on behalf of the council of the institute.

“Very good public-private profile”

A former student of Sciences Po, then of the National School of Administration (ENA), Mathias Vicherat is part of the Léopold-Sédar-Senghor promotion, the same as Emmanuel Macron. A senior civil servant, he joined the prefectural body in Picardy, then in Seine-Saint-Denis, before joining the general management of the national police, the City of Paris, as director of cabinet, then the SNCF, at the post of deputy managing director and, finally, the Danone group. 1^er October, he resigned from his post as Secretary General in charge of sustainable development, public affairs, communication, security and real estate, to devote himself to his candidacy for Sciences Po.

After fourteen years in the service of the State and a public company, then two and a half years in the private sector, “Mathias Vicherat has a very good public-private profile, which corresponds to the career path of students upon leaving their studies, but also to that of Sciences Po teachers, who are permanent or temporary contractors in the public and private sectors”, according to one of the institute’s board members. This mixed profile is also in line with that of his predecessor, Frédéric Mion.
