Sala-Gualtieri curtain: “Today it is easier to be mayor of Milan than of Rome …”

“It is clear that, at this moment, it is easier to be the mayor of Milan than the mayor of Rome …”. The one that Giuseppe Sala, in his second mandate, addresses directly to the first ‘rookie’ citizen of the capital, Roberto Gualtieri, from the stage of the Parma Fair where the National Assembly of the Anci takes place, the National Association of Italian Municipalities. “Even if – adds Sala – the Milanese citizens are very cooperative but also very demanding, if the subway does not pass after five minutes, they call me on the phone”. Gualtieri immediately replies: “For this reason, so are the Roman citizens: I have just launched an extraordinary plan to clean the city in two months and after a few days they send me photos of the rubbish bin next to the bins, telling me that Rome is still dirty: they will have immediately become ‘Milanese’ … “Sala ‘also reveals’ a phone call received from Gualtieri before running for the Campidoglio, to ask him about his experience as mayor; and concludes: “One thing is certain: I don’t know if being mayor is really the best job or the most difficult one in the world: but surely there is no job that makes you happier!”.
