Slovak hockey club iClinic Bratislava Capitals asked for tragic events from last week’s International ICE Hockey League to suspend participation in other matches of the season. However, the Capitals are not voting for the competition and would like to continue next season.

Some Capitals players were surprised by the club’s decision not to finish the season. This is also the case of substitute goalkeeper Samuel Baroš, who did not expect such a step, but understands it.

“I am convinced that we will continue. After the owner told us about it, and especially with what style, we thought about it and it is probably the best solution, “said Baroš.

The club’s decision first surprised the experienced striker Dávid Buca, who has already skipped a lot in his career, but this situation is also new for him. “We were angry at first, but the management explained it well. We know that such a tragedy also happened in Yaroslavl, and they also did not finish the season, “thinks Buc.

Management’s arguments why it would be better not to continue the season eventually fell on fertile ground.

“Maybe we players also think we can handle it, but we would be in danger of a crisis. The management thus made the right decision. I think that changing the environment will only benefit everyone. However, we are glad that it is only until the end of the season and maybe next year they will contact us again, “hopes Buc.

Baroš also expressed himself in a similar spirit: “The main argument was that it would bind us. The whole season would be in this spirit. We would play, but the results we care about would probably not be as good as we would like, “thinks the goalkeeper of the Bratislava club.

Baroš admitted that he was surprised by the club’s decision and at first he did not know what he would do next, but the next day he sorted out his thoughts and began to actively address his future.

“I will not mention anything specific yet, but I am glad that some offers have already arrived, which I must now consider and see what will come out best,” Baroš did not reveal more.

At the same time, however, he added that the club behaved well towards the players after the announcement of the end. They have a training area and facilities until they find a new club. “It is generous of the club to keep going. The owner could have wrapped it all up, but he decided to give space to players who have not yet agreed on anything, “Baroš explained.

Dávid Buc also acknowledges the club’s attitude towards the players: “The club behaved correctly. They told us that we could look for a new club and until that happened, we could use the club’s facilities and our salaries continued. It is excellent news for those who do not have the opportunity to get somewhere so quickly, “said Buc, adding that he has already received some offers from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Although the Bratislava Capitals will not finish the season, the club has not disappeared and the management has expressed a desire to continue in the IHL. The members of the current staff will theoretically have the opportunity to return to the club.

“It’s hard to say what will happen. I was happy here, it’s my home town. The league is good. I don’t know what next season will be, “Baroš added.

Buc admitted that the tragic death of Boris Sádecký, who had an unexpected heart failure, frightened the players and many began to take the question of their health more seriously. “It simply came to our notice then. If we continued, we had already arranged some special health tests. Now everyone will probably deal with it on their own, “he said.
