We need to transport patients to other regions

The director of the hospital, Martin Šenfeld, told Topky that about 70 patients were currently hospitalized, with a total capacity of 86 beds. “The situation is especially critical for patients who require artificial lung ventilation, where we have exceeded our capacities and we have to transport patients to other regions.” stated.

“We have a full OAIM department and JIS – we currently ventilate 14 patients,” he said. The Kysucká Hospital with the Čadca Polyclinic provides care for the inhabitants of the Čadca and Kysucké Nové Mesto districts, as well as other patients who need urgent medical care.

We hope we are close to the top

The hospital is currently in the last, ie the third phase of reprofiling. “We had to limit the planned surgical procedures. At present, we only perform acute operations, operations that cannot be postponed and oncological operations,” informed the director. Of all patients, up to 75 percent are unvaccinated. The districts of Čadca and Kysuce have been in the black phase since 19 October.

“The situation is very bad. Our region was one of the first to be hit, the positivity is still high, we hope we are close to the top. Our employees are overwhelmed, we would already need to see a declining trend in hospitalizations,” said Shenfeld. As far as patients are concerned, the situation is very similar. “In the third wave, the disease progresses faster and a lot of patients end up with artificial lung ventilation,” he added.

Capacities are almost full

Both districts are in the Žilina region, where the situation in hospitals is serious, the occupancy of beds by patients with COVID-19 is still increasing. The region informed about it on Thursday on the social network, stating that the most difficult situation is in Čadca and Martin. The highest number of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated patients.

As further specified by the Health Department of the ŽSK Office, the occupancy rate of reprofilized beds in the Žilina Region reached up to 77 percent on Wednesday, November 3. Occupancy of beds with artificial lung ventilation reserved for patients with COVID-19 reached 97 percent. The disease has claimed three victims in the last 24 hours. The first dose of vaccine against COVID-19 was given to 292,676 inhabitants in the Žilina Region. The second dose is vaccinated 277,571 people.
