The Minister of Health initially praised the approach and work of medical staff in Slovakia. “I believe that this challenge, which was actively written by my colleagues and we will read it today, will have a response in the Slovak population. The only vaccination is what can get us out of this pandemic,” said Lengvarský.

I wish we didn’t hear the words “I can’t breathe”

There are currently 157 patients hospitalized at UNB, 12 of whom are on artificial lung ventilation. Patients from other regions are already coming to Bratislava. “The situation we are in is reminiscent of a family. Even though a person is small, he needs encouragement, when he is an adult and gets into trouble, he also needs encouragement and he needs support. At this point, it is also important for us to realize that we are in this company as one family, ” said hospital director Roland Schaller, saying they did everything in their power.

Schaller joined the call and asked people to be vaccinated. “Become help and support for us and get vaccinated as much as possible. I wish we could hear the least words from our patients’ mouths. I can’t breathe.” he added.

It cannot be hidden from the delta

Epidemiologist Alena Koščálová emphasized that there are two ways to gain COVID immunity. “One is vaccination, one is overcoming the disease. You can’t hide from the delta,” she stated. The Minister of Health stated that they are currently negotiating measures proposed by the consulia of experts, he personally believes that all measures will be accepted. Infectologist Peter Sabaka added that only vaccinations can prevent people from ending up in the hospital or dying.

Please get vaccinated!

The author of the letter is mainly Milan Kulkovský, head of the Internal Department of the hospital in Považská Bystrica. The letter has already been signed by more than 1,300 doctors and paramedics. The letter calls for people to be vaccinated and is addressed to anyone who is still hesitant about being vaccinated against coronavirus.

“Dear fellow citizens, friends, all those who are still hesitant to be vaccinated against Covid-19,

we, paramedics working in covid departments all over Slovakia, look every day in the eyes of people who can’t breathe. They ask us why they are the ones losing the battle with Covid-19. Until recently, many of them feared vaccination and, on the contrary, underestimated the disease. Today, they would give everything to decide otherwise.

Our work in this wave is becoming extremely demanding not only physically, but above all mentally and humanly. We cannot avoid tears over the beds of increasingly younger unvaccinated patients, whom we can no longer help. It is impossible to stop thinking that their departure is not only premature, but especially unnecessary.

Our hospitals are filled with people who did not have to be in them. Many of them are experiencing an extremely difficult course of the disease, weeks of separation from their families and uncertainty about how it will end. It often ends up with these people dying for us and we can no longer help them. It is an indescribable feeling of helplessness and despair.

The beds on which patients with other diseases lay a few weeks ago are occupied by patients with Covid-19. Although we are working hard, the care of non-ectopic patients is becoming more and more limited. There are more wards and hospitals that are forced to postpone planned and postponement interventions. There are few of us, there are more and more patients and we are no longer ruling.

Most of the deaths on Covid-19 belong to the group of avoidable deaths, as they could have been prevented by vaccination. Unfortunately, among the victims of a pandemic will also be those who do not receive adequate medical care in time due to the occupancy of hospitals by patients. Thus, vaccination can also prevent unnecessary deaths from other diagnoses.

We have the consequences of Covid in front of our eyes every day, people with a difficult course die in our hands. Vaccination is not a political issue, it is a medical issue. In Covid wards, almost all doctors are vaccinated, there is no need to worry about the side effects of vaccination, vaccines are safe and proven in practice.

With these experiences, in a state of great physical and mental exhaustion, and with fears about what awaits us, please be vaccinated. There is no reason to worry about this, but there are many reasons to worry about the severe course of Covid-19 in the hospital. We know what we’re talking about.
