In numerical superiority, OM wasted too much – Debrief and NOTES of the players (OM 0-0 Metz) – Maxifoot

In numerical superiority for more than half an hour, Olympique de Marseille could not make the difference against Metz (0-0) this Sunday. OM were saved twice by their amounts, Payet also found the bar.

Milik’s OM did not find the fault against Metz

A week after his victory Clermont (1-0), the Olympique de Marseille does not succeed. At eleven against ten for more than half an hour, the club phocen shares the home points with Metz (0-0), this Sunday, the occasion of the 13th day of Ligue 1.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men, often endangered on the Metz counters, were even saved twice by their posts. With this disappointing result, OM missed the opportunity to climb to 2nd place and remained 4th in the standings. Les Messins still occupy 19th place.

A story of amounts

The Messins posed real problems for OM in the first period. First offensively, since the Metz attacks often put the Marseille defense in difficulty. Back in Marseille goals, goalkeeper Mandanda was saved twice by his posts on strikes from Delaine (6th, 34th). Then defensively, the Olympians spinning the ball without finding the flaw in a well-seated Lorraine block.

It was not until the 23rd minute to see Marseille get their first and only dangerous opportunity in the first act. Faced with a solid defense in Metz, Payet tried his luck from outside the area to try to make the difference, but the ball crashed into Oukidja’s crossbar! The goalkeepers could definitely thank their amounts in this first period which ended without the slightest goal scored.

Jemerson sees red

Returning in the second half with better intentions, the Marseillais found themselves in numerical superiority in the 56th minute after the expulsion of Jemerson for a sole on Payet. At eleven against ten, OM was pushing and was unfairly denied a goal from Gerson for a non-existent fault whistled by Mr. Brisard. But Metz had not said his last word and remained dangerous on counters: Mandanda had to work against De Prville and Centonze to avoid his team a bad surprise.

Marseille completely dominated the last twenty minutes against a team from Metz curled up in its half of the field. But, the image of Milik, De la Fuente or nder, the Phocens were narrowly missing in the last gesture to make the difference at the end of the meeting. Oukidja also distinguished himself to repel a head of Milik, then a strike of De La Fuente in the last minutes. Metz folded but did not break and even offered himself big opportunities on cons. We ended up with this draw. The fifth in six games in all competitions for OM …

The score of the match: 4/10

Despite the three amounts affected, we can not say that the first period about an interesting spectacle. There was no more goal in the second act, but the expulsion of Jemerson and the Marseille pressure still offered suspense in a meeting quite disappointing on the technical level.

Player NOTES

Maxifoot has awarded a score (out of 10) comments on each player.

Man of the match: Thomas Delaine (7/10)

The left piston in Metz was poisonous for OM. Very good in the projection after the recovery of the ball, he lacked success by finding the posts twice in the first period. His races hurt Marseille very badly. At the end of the match, he could still have been decisive on a good ball in the depth badly exploited by his attackers.

MARSEILLE :

Steve Mandanda (6): back in goal for OM for the first time since August 28, the Marseille goalkeeper answered now. He started his match with a bad raise, but he made up for it with a good save on a Centonze cross and then deflecting Delaine’s shot on the post. If he is then saved by his post on a second shot of the left piston in Metz in the first period, the OM goalkeeper is decisive against De Prville and Centonze in the second period.

Pol Lirola (4): the Spaniard has confirmed his difficulties in recent weeks. In the hybrid mid-side role, he struggled with knowing when to attack and when to defend. In the offensive phase, he lacked technical accuracy. Replace the 46th by Leonardo Balerdi (5), author of a serious entry.

William Saliba (6.5): the Marseille central defender had a solid match. Pass side against Lazio, Thursday, the player loaned by Arsenal rectified the shot. He was not put in difficulty in the first half and made a good intervention in front of Niane in the box. Positioned to the right side in the second half, he often played fair and quickly forward to speed up his team’s play.

Duje Caleta-Car (5): the Croatian defender had a serious game. He was vigilant in cutting crosses and rather skillful in the recovery. Replace the 90th with Bamba Dieng (not rated).

Luan Peres (5): a decent match for the Brazilian defender. If he brought danger on a long shot and a retreating cross in the first half, he was more discreet in a left-back position after the break.

Cengiz nder (4): the Marseille winger was not successful this Sunday. The Turkish striker tried a few dribbles, but was generally well muzzled by the defense in Metz. He misses the target on a shot above at the end of the match.

Matto Guendouzi (6): the Marseille midfielder makes a good copy. Positioned a notch lower in the midfield, the player loaned by Arsenal had less impact in his team’s attacking play. But his determination and his grind were still there.

Gerson (3): the midfielder of OM still makes a disappointing copy. His offensive contribution is far too limited and he tends to slow down his team’s play. Replaced under the whistles the 65th by Amine Harit (not rated).

Luis Henrique (3): tenured in the left lane of OM, the Brazilian winger did not take advantage of it to score points. He brought little depth to his team’s play and was not dangerous in the first half. After the break, he stumbles on Oukidja when he could do better. Replace the 65th by Konrad de La Fuente (not rated).

Dimitri Payet (6.5): as often since the start of the season, OM’s attacking midfielder responded now. He found the crossbar on a nice strike in the first half. After the break, the Runionnais provokes the expulsion of Jemerson. He was not decisive on the notice board but his activity was valuable. Just like his standard return at the end of the match to stop a against the entry of the surface.

Arkadiusz Milik (4): the Marseille center forward was not having a great day. The Pole did not have his usual success in the opponent’s area, the image of his average shot and slowed down by Jemerson, then his attempt at a pivot which passed the post. At the end of the match, his head is pushed back by Oukidja.

METZ :

Alexandre Oukidja (6.5): little used in the first period, the Metz goalkeeper is saved by his bar on the shot from Payet and intervenes well in the feet of Luis Henrique. He had a lot more work in the second act, especially on shots from Luis Henrique and De La Fuente, then a head from Milik. At the end of the meeting, the Algerian international was invaluable in his aerial outings.

Dylan Bronn (5): rarely endangered in the first period, the central defender Metz had more grudges in his back after the break.

Boubakar Kouyate (6.5): the central defender in Metz had a solid game. The Malian international was good at reading the game to clear the balls in his area and repel the danger on several occasions. At the end of the match, he often made the right gesture to prevent the Marseillais from taking advantage of their numerical superiority.

Jemerson (3): the former Mongasque was serious for nearly an hour, he intervenes well in particular to slow down a strike from Milik. His match was ruined by his red card for a sole below Payet’s knee.

Fabien Centonze (6): a rather solid match defensively for the right piston in Metz, who read the Marseille game well to cut the transmissions. In the second period, he spoils a block on which he forgets Sarr in the box.

Habib Maga (6): despite a warning received very early in the meeting, the Metz midfielder did not ease off and was valuable in the recovery.

Kevin N’Doram (5.5): a serious game overall for the Metz midfielder, who participated in the strong defensive performance of his team thanks to his activity to cut the pass lines and scratch balls.

Thomas Delaine (7): read the comment above.

Farid Boulaya (5.5): the Metz midfielder was invaluable in the ball outings to find his partners in the spaces. Replace the 62nd by Pope Matar Sarr (not rated).

Ibrahima Niane (4.5): the Metz striker weighed physically on the Marseille defense, but he did not know how to highlight in the opponent’s area. Replace the 62nd by Matthieu Udol (not rated), diminished by a knee injury and replaced the 79th by Vincent Pajot (not rated), who is also replaced following an injury the 90th by Lamine Gueye (not rated).

Nicolas De Prville (6): the Metz striker makes a good copy. He was very interesting in the transition by allowing his team to win yards through his often judicious runs and passes, the image of his shift for Delaine, who then finds the post for the first time in the game. Replace the 79th with Opa Nguette (not rated).
