Austria is introducing a large number of people infected coronavirus travel controls in more and more regions are currently in place in four federal states – Tyrol, Styria, Upper and Lower Austria, the APA agency reported on Wednesday.

This means that when leaving a certain risk area, it is necessary to prove with a certificate of vaccination against covid, a negative test or a certificate of overcoming the disease. The focus of the checks is to verify that the covidpasy are genuine and not falsified, while the police scan the QR codes of these documents. Anyone who tries to travel with a forged document will be reported to the prosecutor’s office and may be prosecuted. Those who want to leave their district without the necessary document will have to return and also notify them to the authorities.

Upper Austria is particularly hard hit, with inspections already taking place in 11 of the 18 districts. The seven-day incidence of the infection there is 660.5 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. District border checks are introduced in Austria when the incidence value exceeds 500. In Lower Austria, more than 100 police officers are deployed every day to monitor compliance.

On Monday, inspections may also be introduced in the largest Austrian district of Liezen, located in Styria, as noted by its chairman Christian Sulzbacher. According to him, the police will check passengers at 15 places, while checks will not be carried out on motorways. He will also not be checked when he returns to the district, he added.

Austria has had more than 5,000 new cases of the disease for four days in a row, the daily Kurier recalls. On Wednesday, 6506 infections were reported in the past 24 hours, the highest pandemic during the fourth wave. The highest daily increase since the beginning of the pandemic was confirmed in the country last November 13, when 9586 more infected. For the first time since the outbreak of the fourth wave, the number of active cases of the disease has exceeded 50,000. The weekly incidence at the all-Austrian level is 430.53. In Austria, 20 covid victims fell on Wednesday, bringing the total to 11,400.
