BRATISLAVA. After negotiations with representatives of people living in the regions, the We Are Family government movement decided not to support the amendment to the Nature and Landscape Protection Act.

We are not supporting the planned reform of national parks, even if their coalition partners make the support of this law conditional on the construction of state rental apartments. The movement’s press department informed about it.

Negative impact

“The We Are Family movement has made it clear that we will first listen to the people who live in these regions and only then will we decide whether to support this proposal,” said the We Are Family leader. Boris Kollár.

The movement, through the Member of the National Council Jaroslav Karahuta, prepared an amending proposal to the law in question, which was presented to the participating representatives of people from the regions during today’s meeting.

“We wanted to change this law through an amendment if we were given the green light at the meeting, but people also rejected such an alternative and we stand behind them,” Kollár specified.

The main reason why We are a Family has decided not to support this proposal is that it will also negatively affect people living in the countryside in terms of work and economics. “The We Are Family movement has promised to stand behind more than 2.5 million people living in rural areas who have a problem with this reform,” the movement’s leader added.

Park reform

The law from coalition deputies provides that the administration of state-owned land in national parks will be transferred to the State Nature Conservation. Parliament will discuss the amendment on the second day and the debate will continue on Thursday, 4 November.

According to the authors of the amendment, the fundamental shortcoming is that the nature and landscape protection organization, which was established for the purpose of providing care for specially protected parts of nature and landscape in Slovakia, does not directly manage land in these areas. It is inefficient for the state if the territory in the national park is taken care of by two state organizations.
