Haaland away from Borussia Dortmund? 300 million deal

The signing of striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund is likely to cost his new club up to € 300m according to a German agent. Volker Struth, who among others represents German forward Timo Werner and former international Toni Kroos, told the weekly Sport Bild that the 21-year-old Norwegian is set to leave the Bundesliga. “I believe the transfer will take place in 2022. Haaland has a release clause. The full package with salary for five years and agent ‘Mino Raiola’ commission will probably be between 250 and 300 million euros,” Struth said. The biggest amount spent on a transfer so far is the € 222 million paid by Paris Saint-Germain to Barcelona’s Neymar in 2017. Haaland, currently sidelined with injury, joined Dortmund in January 2020 from Salzburg and has a contract until 2024. He is wanted by many top European clubs and Struth has ruled out a transfer to Germany at Bayern Munich: the player’s salary appears out of goal for the Bavarians. “Even if Bayern Munich had the money, they wouldn’t,” Struth said. “Hell would break loose if a player in Germany made 50 million”. Who could afford such an investment? The spotlight is on Premier League clubs: Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United. In theory, Real Madrid could try, but they are already chasing Kylian Mbappé. Haaland, according to Struth, will not only decide on the basis of money but will choose the destination thinking about the possibility of raising trophies: “He will not decide on the basis of money alone. Ten percent more or less will not drive it,” said Struth.
