Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the state-owned Gazprom to increase gas supplies to Europe.

As soon as Russia fills its underground reservoirs, Russian state media reported on Wednesday.

Gazprom chief Alexei Miller told the Tass news agency that the group could increase deliveries to European storage facilities from November 8.

Putin’s statement on Wednesday represents a turnaround, as the Russian president has so far claimed that Russia’s gas supplies are higher than contracts.

Due to high prices, the Russian president has repeatedly called for the rapid launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which has already been completed.

However, it is awaiting regulatory approval in Germany.
