Since September 1, the vaccine booster versus the Covid-19 is accessible. According to the government, this third dose concerns 6.8 million French people.

Today, 2.6 million of them have already received their recall, less than 30%.

Objective: maintain the level of protection against the virus and avoid serious forms of the disease as much as possible.

Note: booster shots are given with Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, regardless of the vaccine used previously.

Who is affected by the booster dose?

As of October 27, 2021, here are the people who should receive this booster dose, list communicated by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health:

residents of nursing homes and long-term care units (USLD)
people over 65 living at home
people at very high risk of severe form
people with comorbidity (s)
immunocompromised people and those around them
all the professionals who take care of or support vulnerable people (caregivers, medical transport and professionals in the medico-social sector)
home helpers working with vulnerable people
firefighters
people who have received a dose of Janssen vaccine.

When to receive your third dose?

Depending on your situation, you must meet deadlines:

6 months after the first full vaccination schedule for the most vulnerable people
from 3 months after the last injection for severely immunocompromised people, on medical advice
four weeks after injection for those vaccinated with Janssen vaccine.

If you are concerned, you can go for your vaccination booster without delay.

Covid-19 and flu: two vaccines at once

For frail people, vaccinations against influenza and Covid-19 are essential to avoid developing severe forms of these two diseases.
The Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) recommends the co-administration of the two vaccines during the same appointment.
This solution is relevant for optimizing vaccination coverage against these two epidemics and seizing every opportunity to vaccinate the most vulnerable people and to protect them as well as possible.
If co-administration is not possible, the HAS considers that there is no time limit to respect between two vaccinations, influenza and Covid-19 included.

Where to receive this third dose of vaccine?

There are several options for receiving a booster dose. You need to make an appointment:

with your attending physician (general practitioner or specialist)
at your occupational doctor
in a drug store
in a nursing office or with a midwife
in a vaccination center
at your dental surgeon
in a medical biology laboratory.
